Blower Door Diagnostic

This course is a hands-on experience. The focus of this class is to get students familiar with the blower door operation. We give a look into the history of this equipment and provide added information on its uses and function in the world of construction today. Students have a chance to perform some test with this equipment and learn the different components and functionality of a blower door.

Code Amendments

This course is focused on the recent changes, alterations or additions that have been made to modify state and local building codes. The majority of code amendments come in the form of an addition or alteration being made to the original or "existing" code in question. This course takes the time to overview the original codes in place, the amendment being made, and the reasons for why the amendments are in place. This course will be offered at our Full Day Events. This course will also be offered in the Session I, night courses- where night courses are available.

Code Interpretations I

Sometimes a code can be written as something very clear and simple. At other times codes can be worded very complicated and confusing. This class ventures to take a look at some common codes, and their intended meanings, while attempting to bridge-the-gap, between what is actually written for a code, and what is meant to be understood for that code. This course will be offered at our Full Day Events. This course will also be offered in the Session II, night courses- where night courses are available.

Code Interpretations II

This course is a continuation course of Code Interpretations I. While Code Interpretations I is not a pre-requisite to Code Interpretations II, they do work well when taken together. Code Interpretations II tends to focus a little more on commercial building codes. Both courses are a compliment to each other, and both search for clear and simple meanings that can be brought to light from some of the more common and confusing codes that contractors tend to have questions about today. This course will be offered at our Full Day Events. This course will also be offered in the Session II, night courses- where night courses are available.

2022 State Mandatory Course

This course is designed from the North Carolina Board of Licensing for General Contractors. This is a mandatory course offered to all General Contractors as a requirement for the completion of their Continuing Education hours. This course will be offered as requirement at all of our Full Day Events. This course will also be offered in the Session I, night courses- where night courses are available.

Residential Roofing

The purpose of this course is to inform contractors on the various practices codes and roof load designs for residential roofing. These various aspects come from the North Carolina residential building codes as well as experience in the field from the instructors these practices and techniques are understood by answering common questions about Roofing codes and experiences.

Energy Basics I

This is the first part in a comprehensive- two session- course, focusing on energy conservation and energy efficiency. Energy basics is designed to give students the basics on energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and standard laws of thermodynamics.

This is a 2- hour course. Designed to teach and compliment energy efficiency today. Energy Basic I is prerequisite to Energy Basics II. These courses together amount to 4 hours total and will need to be taken together. No textbook is necessary for these courses.

Energy Basics II

This is the 2nd part in a two-part series on energy basic and conservation. This class goes a little more in depth on how to find the rate of heat transmission within a dwelling. This course also gives a deeper look into energy losses, measures used for energy efficiency, savings-to-investment ratios, and the useful information used to help with energy efficiency concerns.
This course is designed to be taken with Energy Basics I as a total 4-hour class. No textbook is needed for these courses.

The World of Weatherization

This course is designed to teach students about weatherization as a whole. The course looks into weatherization practices and insights. This course also looks at Health and Safety within the building envelope and the science of how a house works as a system in whole.

Safety in Construction I

This course is designed to teach students some basic safety information related to the construction industry. This class is focused mainly as an introduction to OSHA, Health Hazards, and Protective Personal Equipment.
This class is the first in a series of five classes taught by NC Construction Academy, that will allow contractors to receive an OSHA 10 certification card and to receive continuing education credits, all at the same time.
